Canossian Voluntary Service

image: voluntary logoFrom the very beginning of her mission among the poor, St. Magdalen involved lay women and men who generously contributed their energy and talents in projects and ministries aimed at promoting and assisting those who were marginalized and abandoned. Through various groups and associations, young and old were able to place themselves at the service of their disadvantaged brothers and sisters.

Since the late 1960's, Voluntary Service has emerged at national and international levels promoted by lay organisations at the service of those in greater need. Encouraged by Church and Institute documents, in 1987, the Canossian General Leadership Team appointed a group of Sisters to begin the study of the various aspects of Voluntary service.

Contemporaneously, local experiences in Voluntary service were offered in Italy and in the U.S.A. These were soon followed by International experiences in the Philippines, India and Sao Tome' (West Africa). By 1992 Canossian Voluntary service had become established in a number of Canossian Provinces around the world.  Visit the website: www.voica.org/en

In Australia, Canossian Voluntary Service began in 1992 as a response to individual requests by young adults desiringW to offer their services to the most needy in countries overseas. In June 2007 a local Volunteers group was established in the Brisbane area.
